Watch Thompson Twins Frontman Tom Bailey Perform His Hits For The First Time In 27 Years

Tom Bailey

Throughout the ’80s, Tom Bailey led the British synthpop trio Thompson Twins, who cranked out a series of solid-gold new wave singles, helped establish the whole John Hughes-movie aesthetic, and participated in a cultural moment that’s remained a touchstone ever since. But Bailey hasn’t performed those old Thompson Twins songs in 27 years, and he’s only just now decided to bring those songs back. He’ll headline the American Retro Futura tour, an all-synthpop revue that also features Howard Jones, Ultravox’s Midge Ure, China Crisis, and Katrina And The Waves’ Katrina. To warm up for the jaunt, Bailey played a show at the small Reading club Sub89 last week. Below, watch fan-made video of the entire 55-minute, nine-song greatest-hits set.

Bailey is supremely vague about his reasons for getting back into it, and his knowledge of his own legacy, in this SFGate interview.
