Tyrannosaurus Dead – “Local Bullies” (Stereogum Premiere)

Joanna Gruesome have been releasing splits with a number of awesome bands, Perfect Pussy and Trust Fund among them. Here’s another: Brighton quintet Tyrannosaurus Dead teamed up with Gruesome for a split single last month.

So who are T-Dead, and what do they do? If “Local Bullies” is any indication, they’re like a scrappier, fuzzier New Pornographers (Dan Bejar edition), or the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart if they were actually English, or Los Campesinos! if they traded coffee for booze. This one is all big guitars, boy-girl harmonies, and wistful sentiment, making full use of the amped-up indie-pop playbook. “Local Bullies” is the first single from Tyrannosaurus Dead’s full-length debut Flying Ant Day, out this November and produced by Rory Attwell of Test Icicles. Hear it below.

Flying Ant Day is out 11/3 on Odd Box. Pre-order it here, and check out Tyrannosaurus Dead’s previous stuff at Bandcamp.
