Watch Arcade Fire Cover Bo Diddley In Chicago

Arcade Fire at Northside

Bo Diddley was born in Mississippi, but he moved to Chicago as a kid, and he helped define what the sound of Chicago blues could be. Arcade Fire are, of course, on a tour where they’re covering a local artist in almost every town they visit, and last night, they played the first night of a two-night stand at Chicago’s United Center. If you’re picking a definitive Chicago artist to cover, you could do a whole hell of a lot worse than Bo Diddley, though I suppose it would be cool if they took on Liz Phair or Urge Overkill or Chief Keef tonight. The one fan-made video of the band covering Diddley’s “Who Do You Love” is incomplete and faraway, but the audio is pretty clear, and you get the basic idea. Check out the performance below.

Arcade Fire’s Reflektor is, of course, out now on Merge, and nothing on it sounds anything like Diddley.
