Frank Ocean’s father has been absent most of his life, and Ocean has been open about what kind of effect it had on him. Back in December 2012, the singer tweeted that his father wanted to sue him for a million dollars: “Like I owe him back child support. Weak individual bought me a swiss knife at 6yrs old then dipped on me,” he said before deleting the tweet. Now his father, Calvin Cooksey, has filed a $142 million lawsuit against Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons after he allegedly called him a “deadbeat dad,” according to TMZ. Cooksey said that Simmons said bad things about him on his hip-hop website Global Grind and asserted that the only reason he wasn’t a part of Ocean’s life was his “money grubbing mother.” Cooksey says that he’s a singer and inventor and is suing for lost wages because of Simmons’ disparaging remarks. Simmons and Ocean haven’t commented yet.
