For the past three years, the Houston radio station News92 FM has had a 24-hour all-news format. But ratings weren’t what they needed to be, and as the Houston Chronicle reports, the station’s owners laid off 47 employees and switched the station’s format up completely. As of right now, 92.1 on your FM dial in Houston will only play the songs of Beyoncé, the city’s favorite daughter. That’s it. Beyoncé all day. It’s the first terrestrial Beyoncé-only radio station in the world, and I sort of hope it’s not the last. I’m sure people will write about this as a sad indicator that Americans don’t care enough to stay informed. And maybe it is that. But from where I’m sitting, it’s also a pretty good reason to live in Houston.
