Last month we shared with you the video for Young & Sick’s sultry track “Ghost Of A Chance,” and before that, we deemed the Dutch mastermind behind the music/art project, Nick Van Hofwegen, an Artist To Watch on account of his deeply nuanced sound and relatable lyrics. Now the RAC, or the Remix Artist Collective, releases a remix of “Ghost Of A Chance,” which finds the track flourishing within the boundaries of a dancier, more uplifting sphere of electronic music. The RAC functions behind the ideology that remixes should make use of the original track’s elements to create a reinvigorated, fresh incarnation of the song, and they do not deviate from this belief on the Young & Sick remix. The modifications are minimal yet impactful, subtle yet intelligent — RAC layers spurts of funkified bass over Young & Sick’s distinguishably androgynous and soulful vocals, creating a more playful environment in which Van Hofwegen’s voice can bounce around. The result is an irresistible dance tune that nods to the original as much as it lurches forward with newness. Listen below.
Young & Sick’s self-titled debut is out now on Harvest.
