At this point, the Canadian musician Alex Calder is probably best known for his cross-dressing performance in Mac Demarco’s “Only You” video and playing in Demarco’s now-defunct band Makeout Videotape. Calder recently signed to Captured Tracks and is set to release his debut full-length, Strange Dreams, early next year. As the title suggests, Strange Dreams is a mellow record, maybe even a sleepy one. At just barely two minutes long, the second single, “Lola,” is atmospheric and almost chronically chill.
