After a few false starts, Lil Wayne finally seems ready to release his supposedly-final album Tha Carter V, which he’s split into two parts like it was a Hunger Games installment. In recent weeks, he’s shared tracks like “Gotti” and “Off Day.” Last night, he appeared at the American Music Awards, debuting his new single “Start A Fire,” and the studio version arrived online shortly thereafter. “Start A Fire,” it turns out, is a moody and muddy love song that for some reason features the not-really-famous-anymore R&B singer Christina Milian. If you were hoping that every new single from Tha Carter V would herald a return to Wayne’s glory days, you should probably stay far away from this song. Optimism is a beautiful thing. Do what you can to maintain it. But if you’re ready to admit that everything is the worst, the song is below.
