It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from the electronic duo of Johnny Jewel and Ida No who make music under the moniker Glass Candy. Today they finally shared their cover of Herb Alpert’s 1979 instrumental song “Rise” which we previously heard underneath this 2012 interview. Instead of the soul-driven rhythm that defines the original, Glass Candy replace the funky aspects of the track with electronic ones. Ethereal synths wander aimlessly in the background while a steady, clapping beat helps the track navigate through its 6-minute duration. Smartly, Glass Candy keep the truly defining quality of the track: the horns. Listen.
