Back in November we premiered L.A. duo Little Brutes’ exquisite, small-scale synth-pop single “Carefully” in our weekly pop column. It felt like Haim’s freewheeling spirit had been downloaded into a sleek, minimal xx song, and each track on their Desire EP is just as expertly assembled and soulfully executed. From the finger-snaps and muted guitar riff that introduce the EP to the humid atmospherics and playful keyboard riffing that close it out, it’s an absolute pleasure, all held together by Rachel Cantu’s immensely approachable lead vocals.
