Boston-based duo Sonnymoon shared a new single today and announced that they will release a new LP, The Courage Of Present Times, later this year. The band put out a self-titled record three years ago, but singer Anna Wise is perhaps best known for being featured on Kendrick Lamar’s song “Real.” (She also was part of his recent Colbert performance.) Although the instrumental aesthetic of “Pop Music” is not easily likened to that of 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, Wise’s vocal stylings are wholly recognizable on this minimalist electronic track. Wise explained its genesis to The Fader:
I had to admit to my boyfriend that I was having inter-dimensional intercourse with another man. I told him it didn’t mean anything because it happened during a dream, but he couldn’t get over it, so he started to ignore me. Once that happened, I began to dream about him instead. Then we broke up.
The Courage Of Present Times is out 3/23.
