Waxahatchee – “Under A Rock”

Waxahatchee makes the kind of music you listen to when you’re barely hanging on. That’s evident in “Under A Rock,” the latest single from the upcoming Ivy Tripp. The song clocks in at just over two minutes, thrumming by on garage-rock-angst and disappointment. Katie Crutchfield’s voice twists like barbed wire, lashing out but keeping the emotion just at bay as she seethes, “You’re someone else’s mess tonight.” Those five words capture all the freedom that comes from cutting dead weight out of your life and all the restraint it takes to stop offering help to a fucked-up person. Some people pray when they’re having a bad day, I just put on Katie Crutchfield.

Ivy Tripp is out 4/17 via Merge.
