Oh, god. Listen, no matter how bad your day was today — if it was bad at all, not trying to assume your day was bad, I hope it was great! — you AT THE VERY LEAST did not run a racist episode of your incredibly popular TV show that inspired the hashtag #HowIMetYourRacism. So you at least have that to be grateful for. Man oh man. What is wrong with everybody?! Here is BuzzFeed to explain it:
Monday’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother” on CBS continued an ongoing joke about a slap bet between Marshall and Barney. In order to win the bet, and give the best slap to Barney, Marshall explains he learned the “Slap of a Million Exploding Suns” by seeking wisdom from three great masters.
It turned out these supposed wise ones were played by Marshall’s friends — Colbie Smulders, Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan — in yellowface. People went to Twitter with #HowIMetYourRacism to takedown the episode.
It’s unfortunate for the show both that somehow not one person involved in its creation thought to maybe not put its white characters in yellowface, and that #HowIMetYourRacism is a VERY good hashtag. (The creators have since tweet-pologized.) How was your day, though? Fall in a puddle? Spill coffee on important documents? Crush compliment your hairstyle? Have a baby? TELL MEEEE!
