Monsters’ Ball: The Week’s Top Comments

What a week! I mean, this literally was one of the biggest weeks of the year for America. Between DOMA and Wendy Davis and the immigration bill and Paula Deen, we were really out there, doing it. Admittedly, from the circumscribed perspective of Videogum’s editorial mandate not much was really going on. I think there was a new Pacific Rim trailer? I know that Mandy Kaling was seen leaving a friend’s house, which is exciting, but somehow it pales in comparison to landmark civil rights legislation. Somehow. Not sure how yet. I have all weekend to think about it. Speaking of the weekend: bye!

After the jump, the five Highest Rated comments, as voted on by you, the Lowest Rated comment, the winner of the Kate Gosselin’s Racist Photo Caption Contest, and the Editor’s and Associate Editor’s Choice.

This whole story is amazing in both good and bad ways (did you see the thing about where they tried to delete 3 minutes from existence??) but this is pretty awesome too (stolen from uproxx):

I have a fun party trick where I tell people I can recite Pi to the 300th number and say 3.14 and then 298 random numbers.

Sorry ladies, I’m married.

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Frank Lloyd Wrong, if anyone challenges you on that boring fact they deserve whatever they get. Congratulations! And great job this week and congratulations to the rest of you. Have a wonderful weekend.]

I can’t really say I’m happy about that filibuster. Not based on the content of the bill, mind you, but just the whole act of filibustering seems very shady and undemocratic. I mean, forcing a bill to die because you talked for a really long time just sort of seems childish, and not at all reflective of the voice of the people.

[Ed. Note: I hear you, FaceTaco, in terms of the general unease generated by the contemporary approach towards filibustering, which was originally intended for the most unusual of circumstances and therefore was rarely exercised. But also you’re joking, right? THIS is the filibuster that finally woke you up to the idea that filibusters were problematic? Give me a break, troll.]

I never really watched Friends or House, but Kelly seems to really like Friends.

[Assoc. Ed. Note: If only one person on Earth associates Friends with the fact that I seem to like it a lot, that would be enough. Thank you, topknot.]
