Last week, Jennifer Lawrence compared her upcoming movie, The Hunger Games, to Kim Kardashian’s divorce. Right. Yes. Good point! But last night, at the New York premiere, Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley compared The Hunger Games to the Occupy Wall Street movement. WHICH IS IT, GUYS? From Vulture:
“It’s the one percent [killing the kids],” he told us at the after-party at the Top of the Standard. “I think you’d have to be blind to not see that. I was shocked to see all that in there.”
“You know what was so funny? I was asking Zoe about that while we were watching it,” Badgley said. “I thought it was just going to be the games. But then I realized, and I thought, ‘If this doesn’t end in revolution, it’s irresponsible, because of everything it’s bringing up.’ If Katniss doesn’t become a fucking revolutionary, then I don’t know what they’re doing. And as it went on, I went, ‘Fuck! That’s what they’re doing!’ Which is cool.”
Good use of the words “funny” and “cool.” Once again, I am personally a little bit confused about how a broad and unfocused popular movement against the vague and undefined evils of capitalism is the same as CHILDREN MURDERING CHILDREN IN A HOLOGRAM OR WHATEVER, but, you know, I didn’t go to New York Stateiversity or get my novella published in the New Yorker or whatever else something something Dan Humphrey reference. I guess he is right and I am an idiot for not seeing that. OPEN YOUR EYES SHMEEPLE!
