Well, after 153 seasons, 9,000 episodes, and 40 Easter specials, TLC is pulling the plug on the beloved American institution that is Kate Plus 8 (nee Jon and Kate Plus 8). From the HollywoodReporter:
The Discovery-owned cable network that once put Kate, her ex-husband Jon Gosselin and their eight children on the map with ratings juggernaut, Jon & Kate: + 8, and its follow up Kate + 8 has opted to pull the plug.
“TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate + 8,” the network said in a statement. “By the end of this season, Kate + 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate + 8); an exceptional milestone.”
The final episode of Kate + 8 will air Sept. 12. From there, the network will check in with the reality TV star-turned-tabloid staple and her family with periodic specials.
Thank goodness there will be periodic specials. It was almost too much to take. Obviously, this was a golden era in American society: spiritually uplifting, intellectually expansive, emotionally rewarding, and an artistic masterpiece. We can never begin to repay Jon and Kate for allowing us into their home. What a wonderful love story and I am sure we all wish these young lovebirds the best of luck in all of their future endeavors. Thanks to them and TLC for making the world a better place. Good riddance.
