The 2010 Emmy Award Nominees

Whoa. The nominees for the 2010 Emmy Awards (August 29th, hosted by Jimmy Fallon) have been announced. How did that happen? Caught me slipping, ENTIRE YEAR! It seems like just yesterday I was getting so mad about Jon Cryer winning the biggest award you can possibly win in television for his work on Two and a Half Men. Oh, he’s nominated for Outsanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series again this year? Perfect. I hope he wins, and as soon as he accepts his Moon Man (as far as I am concerned, all awards are “Moon Men”) a man in a tuxedo comes out on stage and says “Goodnight, everyone, the Emmys are over forever.” And no one ever wins another Emmy again, because we all have agreed that they’re worthless. There are some good nominees this year, though. Locke! Christina Hendricks! Kristen Wiig! COACH TAYLOR! MRS. COACH TAYLOR! And a very special congratulations to our 100th most powerful celebrity, Mariska Harigtay on her nomination.

Sometimes it is funny that it is 2010, an age of instant information and infinitely segmented popular culture delivering highly targeted entertainment to niche audiences, and yet we still have grandiose awards ceremonies so that the casts of Damages and The Big Bang Theory can feel like it was all worth it. Like their time on Earth is not an exercise in absurdity. Like there isn’t a hole in the fucking ocean. Silly!
