Black Baron – “Fluorescent Light” (Stereogum Premiere)

Black Baron seems like a band that would rather stick to the shadows. “Light shows my every flaw, darkness hides my face,” they growl on their new track, the lead single from their forthcoming debut album Abject Skin. “The grey brings me comfort and disguises what I lack in charm and grace.” The Ontario band makes music to match that sentiment, an onslaught of messy guitars and drums that bristle hardcore but pull back with a crafty ear for melody. “Fluorescent Light” stumbles along with a ferocious rage, knocking over everything in its path but feeling apprehensive about doing so. “What am I but broken, stupid, young, and fair? Always over spoken, too far gone to even care.” Listen below.

Black Baron’s Abject Skin is out 5/26 via Bloodmoss Records.
