Sufjan Stevens’ tour is underway, and a song from his tour-only 7″ has made its way online. “Exploding Whale” presumably didn’t make it on Carrie & Lowell because of its myriad electronic elements. The song gives us a glimmer of what Sufjan’s latest might have sounded like had he continued with the electronic experiments of The Age Of Adz, and while I’m happy he chose the direction he did, the way he splices up celestial light here is extremely pretty. “Embrace the epic fail of my exploding whale,” he sings.
