Tennessee trio the Lees Of Memory — the current project of Superdrag’s John Davis and Brandon Fisher — are back with their signature brand of awesome shoegaze. In honor of Record Store Day, the band will release two new tracks on the 7″ “Soft Places” b/w “Within A Dream II.” The pair of songs couldn’t be more different sonically coming from the same band, but they are both played purely and brilliantly. The A-Side, “Soft Places,” is a highly rhythmic joint that gets hard and heavy on the hook. The B-Side, “Within A Dream II,” is more your classic mid-tempo rock ballad, driven by super-crunchy power strokes, which occasionally give way to a whompy synth siren over gauzy harmonized vocals. I had to double-check to make sure I didn’t accidentally switch the titles. Listen.
The “Soft Places” b/w “Within A Dream II” 7″ is out 4/18 on SideOneDummy. It is available exclusively through independent record shops.
