Parquet Courts – “Pretty Girls” (Joey Pizza Slice Cover)

New York punk rockers Parquet Courts released two albums last year — the great Sunbathing Animals and the very good Content Nausea, released under the band’s Parkay Quarts alter-ego. This year, though, the band has only given us a Live At Third Man album. So it’s welcome news that the band has a pair of split 7″ singles coming out, as Pitchfork reports. First, they’ll team with Vermont lo-fi dude Joey Pizza Slice (who also records as Son Of Salami). They cover Joey Pizza Slice’s “Pretty Girls,” and Joey Pizza Slice covers a song of theirs. And a few days later, they’ll also team up with the great New York underground band Big Ups for a live split. Parquet Courts’ version of “Pretty Girls” is online now, and it’s a garage-rocking, Modern Lovers-esque take on a tune about how pretty girls “is a motherfucker.” Listen to the Parquet Courts version and the Joey Pizza Slice original below.

The Joey Pizza Slice split, which also features Joey Pizza Slice’s take on Parquet Courts’ “Picture Of Health,” is out 8/11 on Wharf Cat, and it’s limited to 500 copes. The Big Ups live split is out 8/14 on VERA/LIVE, and it’s limited to 300 copies.
