Total Makeover – “Different Shapes” (Stereogum Premiere)

Following last year’s demise of Brooklyn synthpop band Neighbors, founder Noah Stitelman returns with his new project Total Makeover and premieres”Different Shapes” off their upcoming self-titled EP. The band’s debut blends catchy electro pop with new wave influences along with production by Justin Gerrish, who has worked with Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, and Hamilton Leithauser. “Different Shapes” starts off with a distorted bass that soon picks up with synth, loud percussion, and whispering soft vocals in a Julian Casablancas style. Reminiscent of the beloved bands of the post-punk revival, Total Makeover takes on a heavier sound and more personal lyrics than Stitelman’s previous project. Listen below.

Total Makeover’s self-released EP is out 8/21, with a release show in Brooklyn that night at Alphaville.
