Ben Khan is a 22-year-old producer from London who makes a distinctly British form of synth-addled electro-funk. Jai Paul is the easy comparison to make, and it’s an apt one, but Khan is no mere knockoff. This spring’s 1000 EP was excellent, nudging Paul’s swampy mutant-R&B into the light with a sharp pop sensibility and some straight-up funky guitar, and now Khan has followed that up with a new track. Premiered by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 today, “Blade (Tidal Wave Of Love)” sees Khan pushing out further into space, with blippy sonar-like pulses providing a nice counterpoint to the squelchy bass. It’s being billed as a demo, but the song sure sounds finished to me. Listen below via the Line Of Best Fit, and you can grab a free download here in exchange for your email address.
