Hollywood Vampires Tribute Album Features Paul McCartney, Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Dave Grohl, Slash, & Many More

Historically, the Hollywood Vampires hung out on at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on L.A.’s Sunset strip in the early ’70s. Alice Cooper was a founding member, and he recalls the litmus test for becoming a vampire was simple: outdrink all the members. He recalls hanging out at the Rainbow with the likes of John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, and Jim Morrison.

In an effort to honor those memories, Cooper, Johnny Depp, and Joe Perry begun piecing together a tribute album along with producer Bob Ezrin. Previously, we knew about Paul McCartney’s involvement with the project, but now, as Blabbermouth points out, the album is officially finished. Hollywood Vampires will be out 9/11 and features contributions from a group of honorary vampires that includes not just McCartney but Perry Farrell, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh, Slash, Robbie Krieger, Zak Starkey, Brian Johnson, and Kip Winger.

Here’s an excerpt from the liner notes, which were penned by one of the original vampires, Bernie Taupin:

I’m not here to defend their vices. Over-indulgence of any sort does not ultimately constitute for a healthy mind and body. And while on the periphery of those involved, wives may have come and gone, career choices may have been deemed dubious, and heartbreak in some cases stalked a dark corridor, but in the lair of the Hollywood Vampires only joy and laughter reigned. I’m not completely sure what constituted bad behavior back then, but in this lair it existed in a bubble, a hermetically sealed dome of fun. It may not have been the round table at the Algonquin, but these were witty, intelligent guys who often got raucous and loud, but rest assured there were no bystanders or animals hurt in the making of the Hollywood Vampires.

Most of the songs are covers of classics, but the album includes two original tracks detailing the story of the vampires. One is called “Raise The Dead” and features an intro from Sir Christopher Lee recorded before his recent death. Men’s fashion designer John Varvatos created the album’s artwork, which is above. Check out the full tracklist below along with extensive liner notes, and an album teaser video.
