Beach Slang – “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas”

For a band whose frontman has been in the scene for over 20 years, Beach Slang seem disproportionately preoccupied with youth. That’s a good thing, though, because it means they’re speaking from a position of experience — James Snyder and co. are actively preaching to their younger listeners, assuring them that yeah, they’ve been through it and understand the unique pressures that come with growing up and yeah, it will get better. “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas,” the first single from their upcoming debut full-length Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us, is their most inspirational and affirming yet. They encourage you to embrace the weird quirks that make you you — “I’m always that kid out of place/ I try to get found, but I’ve never known how.” And later: “We are not alone, we are not mistakes/ Don’t whisper now, we’re allowed to be loud.” They make music for the people that need it most, and sound great while doing it.
