The airy R&B singer Jhené Aiko is really the only famous guest on Vince Staples’ excellent new album Summertime ’06. And “Lemme Know,” the track that features her appearance, isn’t the sort of thing that becomes a hit. It’s a sleepy, murmuring meditation on sex and relationships that has Staples and Aiko reciting their lines in tandem. But when Staples made his debut on The Tonight Show, that’s the song he chose to perform. Staples stood center-stage, leaning on a mic stand, while Aiko and the Roots backed him up. This wasn’t an energetic performance, but Staples has a certain tight-wound magnetism, and it was cool to see that come across on a TV screen. Staples also made the tucked-in T-shirt look work for him. Watch the performance below.
