Last summer we premiered “Vibrant,” an accurately titled song by Tucson rockers Prom Body. At the time, I described them like so: “an exceptional and exceptionally poppy strain of lo-fi garage rock — a buzzing conglomeration of the Buzzcocks, Jay Reatard, Wavves, the Strokes, Ty Segall, and a million obscure guitar bands that release limited edition 7-inches and perform at your local punk-rock dive bar and/or DIY basement venue.” The band’s latest single “Ultimate Worrier” is from an upcoming split with Hikikomori, a fellow Tucson band with whom they share members. In keeping with its name, it plays up the nervy aspects of the band’s sound, continually ratcheting up the tension even as they stay rooted in pop with a shiny veneer and vocals like a beam of light. Listen below.
