Pill – “Hot Glue”

Pill – “Hot Glue”

NYC quartet Pill make a racket that pleasingly reminds me of Love Is All or Downtown Boys. The breed of discordant, brassy, sharp-edged post-punk they play could only emerge from angry young people in an urban environment. (You will not be surprised to learn that they are all painters.) It’s rock music that lets the chaos of noise and free jazz into its world while maintaining breathless momentum and structure — very much a part of Sonic Youth’s lineage, but also, like, sonically youthful. Pill put out a cool EP on Parquet Courts’ Dull Tools label earlier this year, and they’re releasing a single on Mexican Summer at the end of the month. “Hot Glue” is the A-side, and it’s wild.

Pill’s “Hot Glue” b/w “A.I.Y.M?” single is out 10/30 on Mexican Summer. Pre-order it here.
