Shmu is the cheeky moniker of Sam Chown, a multi-instrumentalist that constructs wide-screen, musical panoramas with enough ingredients to make for a pretty interesting trip. Previous single “Pictionary” brought math-rock sensibility to a cheery, shoegaze context, but the erratic and free form nature of “Warrior” shows an entirely new side to the project. With break-neck tempo shifts and spastic electronics, the song’s musical structure gets jostled around like a windswept feather in a tornado. It’s an explosive track that seems to be part of a larger, cinematic audio-journey within Shmu’s upcoming LP, Shhh!!!!. Listen below.
