Over the course of his long career, the former Velvet Underground member John Cale has recorded a few different versions of his song “Close Watch”; different versions of it have appeared on his 1975 album Helen Of Troy and his 1982 album Music For A New Society. (Courtney Barnett also covered the song earlier this year.) Early next year, Cale will M:FANS, a new reworking of Music For A New Society that’ll also include a remastered version of that album and three unreleased bonus tracks. The newest version of “Close Watch” features a clanking synthetic beat and a backing vocal from the Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman. And in director Abigail Portner’s new “Close Watch” video, we see Cale and Coffman attending a creepy fancy-dress ball together in the middle of the day. Check it out below.
