The Spook School – “David Bowie Songs”

Heartfelt Scottish queer-punks the Spook School released “David Bowie Songs” — the B-side to their new 7″ — hours before news broke of the musician’s death, but the result feels oddly prescient, and serves as a testament to how widely beloved and influential he was. “I wish I could love you like I love David Bowie songs,” Nye Todd starts off singing. “But that’s impossible.” The jangling, forward momentum pull of the rest of the song recalls the warmth of their recently released sophomore album, Try To Be Hopeful, and the outsider nature of the song’s lyrics feel like a touching and fitting tribute to one of the greats. Listen below.

Try To Be Hopeful is out now via Fortuna Pop!. You can order the “Binary” / “David Bowie Songs” 7″ here.
