Zosia Mamet has been cast as Patti Smith in a forthcoming biopic about Robert Mapplethorpe, Deadline reports. Mapplethorpe was Smith’s lover, friend and collaborator who she wrote her memoir Just Kids about, which will soon be made into a Showtime original series. Mamet is best known for her role as Shoshanna in Lena Dunham’s Girls. Mapplethorpe will be played by Matt Smith, who has starred as the 11th Doctor in the sci-fi show Doctor Who. Omni Timoner — the filmmaker responsible for the incredible Dandy Warhols/Brian Jonestown Massacre documentary Dig! — will write and direct Mapplethorpe. Remember when Mamet and her sister tried to raise $32K on Kickstarter to make a music video for their band the Cabin Sisters? I didn’t.
