Hospital Ships – “All In Time” (Stereogum Premiere)

Hospital Ships is Jordan Geiger. He earned Band To Watch honors way back in 2008 and has experienced many evolutions since. The band is set to return after a three-year hiatus with The Past Is Not A Flood, a collaboration with Thor Harris of Swans. “All In Time,” a new offering from the album, is a great display of just how Hospital Ships continues to get better. There’s a lot going on on this song, but it feels stripped-down because it’s pretty damn smooth. Piano progressions, fanning drums, intricate percussive hits, tambourine, high and low synths, and guitars meld as whole to become much greater than the sum of its parts. Delicate vocals delivering some very dark sentiments float atop the density as “We’re all going to die” repeats for a good 45 seconds. The balance of wispy vocals versus the packed arrangement makes for a stunning song. Listen.

The Past Is Not a Flood is out 3/11 on Graveface. Pre-order is available here.
