Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ballots have been mailed, and apparently the nominating committee couldn’t find one newly eligible act to include. Artists can be nominated 25 years after the release of their first album. No one with a 1981 debut made the cut … and actually, I can’t think of one off the top of my head. (Anyone?)
This leaves more room for always-the-bride’s-maid bids:
Other holdovers include John Mellencamp, J. Geils Band, Patti Smith, Chic, and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, who would be the first rap act inducted.
Nominated this year FOR THE FIRST TIME are Miles Davis, The Dave Clark Five, Blondie, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. I mean, Cat Stevens.
Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, and Pat Benatar all missing from the nomination list … again.
So who debuted in ’81? Duran Duran?
