Last night, the Tibet House held its annual benefit at New York’s Carnegie Hall. The great minimalist composer Philip Glass curated the lineup, which included FKA twigs, Sharon Jones, Basia Bulat, and others. One of the show’s performers was Iggy Pop, who took the opportunity to cover his late friend and collaborator David Bowie. First, he did “Jean Genie” with members of the Patti Smith group backing him up. Then, later on, he and Sharon Jones sang “Tonight,” a song that Bowie and Pop cowrote for Pop’s 1977 album The Idiot. Bowie later recorded the song as a duet with Tina Turner on his own 1984 album Tonight, and that’s the one that Pop and Jones did. Below, watch videos of those two cover videos, as well as some fan-made Instagrams of FKA twigs performing, via Pitchfork.
