Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna is in full swing for the release of her forthcoming third LP, Chapters. Her first two albums were excellent, but her profile has risen a bit on the third: She recruited legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier for the lead single “Places To Go” and R&B veteran Usher for the followup “Crush.” Today she drops off a video for the Preemo-produced lead single.
The track features Yuna singing about the yearning for an escape from the monotony of life, career, and love over Preemo’s signature scratches and drum breaks. The matching clip begins with her vulnerably admitting that things can be too much for her at times as she looks longingly at airplanes soaring overhead and reminisces about how she’s been able to live out the dreams she had a child in Malaysia. Black-and-white slow mo images feature her running, chasing something out of the frame that is undefinable. Both the song and video are simple, but very relatable because whether or not we admit it, we’re all chasing something. Check it out.
Chapters is out 5/20 on FADER label. Pre-order is available here.
