Don Giovanni Records Announces New Alternative Music Festival

Don Giovanni Records, the stalwart New Jersey punk and DIY indie label, has released some great records from people like Waxahatchee, Screaming Females, and Downtown Boys. And later this year, the label will put on a huge DIY music festival, one that’s conspicuously refusing any corporate sponsorship, in a storied Jersey space.

The New Alternative Music Festival is coming to Asbury Park’s Convention Hall, a place any Springsteen fan considers hallowed ground, 9/16-18. The lineup includes a reunion of P.S. Eliot, the punk band led by Katie and Alison Crutchfield, the two twin sisters who would go on to lead, respectively, Waxahatchee and Swearin’. The bill also includes Downtown Boys, Ought, Screaming Females, Girlpool, Mirah, Tenement, Laura Stevenson, Nude Beach, Daniel Bachman, Upset, Worriers, California X, Selector Dub Narcotic, and Radiator Hospital, among many others, with more to be announced soon.

This is a big space without any particularly huge stars, and it’ll be fascinating to see if the festival organizers can fill it. But ticket prices are crazy reasonable $28 or $30 per day, $75 for the whole weekend. And organizers are claiming that it’s a one-time affair; it won’t be back every year. Below, check out the full lineup, as it exists now.
