The Shaker Hymn – “Waters Of Sea Change” (Stereogum Premiere)

The Shaker Hymn are band of childhood friends from Cork, Ireland who were inspired to form a band upon taking a road trip through America in 2012. Despite that origin story, their music is unmistakably a product of the British Isles, evoking some of the region’s finest rock bands of the ’80s and ’90s. For instance, “Waters Of Sea Change,” from the Shaker Hymn’s upcoming album Do You Think You’re Clever?, reminds me of the Cure’s “Lovesong” as sung by Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffat or Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker. It’s extremely pretty, so listen below.

Do You Think You’re Clever? is out 5/20 on Heavy Noids Records. Pre-order it here.
