Open Mike Eagle and Paul White recently dropped Hella Personal Film Festival, and it’s dope. One of the standout tracks was “Check To Check,” a lighthearted, witty critique on how obsessed we are with our phones, staring at back-lit rectangles in intermittent trances all day. Today, the clever criticism receives the visual treatment. Mike walks through the streets mesmerized by his phone, unaware that crazy things are going down around him. A man gets a chloroform towel to the face and kidnapped, Mike unknowingly kicks a blind man’s walking stick after trying to show him something on the phone, and he mistakes someone he knows in real life for Questlove after seeing the Roots drummer’s latest post on social media. The clip is a great mix of understated humor and keen commentary, just like the song and the rest of the album. Peep it.
Hella Personal Film Festival is out now.
