Spiff TV – “Mi Combo” (Feat. Future & Yandel) Video

Spiff TV is better known for his directing talents than music, but he’s looking to propagate a new fusion of reggaeton and hip hop that that combines the cultures of New York (his birthplace) and Florida (where he was raised). He’s directed a couple of Future’s visuals in the past, including the clip for “Never Gon Lose” off of 56 Nights. On “Mi Combo” (“My Band” in English), the first single from an upcoming compilation, he’s bringing everything together. He’s tapped Future and reggaeton stalwart Yandel to mix his flavors and talents for a multifaceted treat.

The song is a varied mix of classic reggaeton rhythms, winding synths, dry trap drums, and 808s with the reggaeton aesthetic and hip-hop leanings taking turns driving the track. Spiff and Yandel spit agile verses in Spanish, and Future offers some villainous braggodocio in between. The ATL rapper also contributes some Auto-Tune harmonies in Spanish, further blending two seemingly disparate sensibilities into something smooth, danceable, and catchy.

The self-directed video drips with swag. The trio deliver their verses in front of luxurious sports cars in dramatic lighting with plenty of women dancing to the jam. Future comes with a fly fit, a testament to his GQ “Most Stylish Men” cover, and Yandel and Spiff aren’t too far behind. Spiff had this to say to The FADER about the genre-melding, flavor-blending endeavor:

The music video’s concept is to share my blended world, which is hip-hop, reggaeton and Latin hip-hop. My vision for the single, music video, and my upcoming album with other artists is to represent the combination of their sounds, beats, and each artist’s swag. And, of course, their personal style to develop a new concept that supports a global movement.

Watch.

Spiff TV’s upcoming compilation will also feature a Daddy Yankee, Rick Ross, and French Montana collaboration, as well as a track by J Balvin and Fetty Wap. It’s planned for this summer.
