Psychic Heat – “Elixir” (Stereogum Premiere)

Kansas quartet Psychic Heat was formed by Evan Herd and Tanner Spreer not too long ago, but there’s a confidence and audacity in their nuanced fuzz that belies the short time they’ve spent together. They’re set to drop their debut full-length, Sunshower, later this spring, and today they preview it with “Elixir.” The song is beautifully distorted, with layers of infectious psych riffs, cleverly syncopated drums, intricate percussion, and a groovy baseline. Harmonies effortlessly float above the instrumentation and lift the huge hook for a trippy excursion with a deft control of energy. Listen.
