In the latest song from the powerhouse LA duo Classixx, the DJs take us back to the golden days of electronic music, crafting a wildly excitable disco track fit for any dancefloor. “I Feel Numb,” from Classixx’s upcoming sophomore album Faraway Reach, begins slowly with a wash of atmospheric synthesizers, as if they’re trying to make room on the dancefloor before a rush of bodies hits once the beat picks up. Shortly thereafter, Holy Ghost! singer and deli entrepreneur Alex Frankel chimes in with a hypnotic vocal over underlying bass and a twinkling keyboard rhythm, giving your hips something to groove to. Then suddenly, the track is encapsulated in an intricate, flirtatious wave of synthetic and filtered sounds that fuse together into a danceable, modern disco track. As Frankel sings about the feeling of numbness returning in his life, it is inevitable that you engage in a sort of numbness, too, and lose yourself in Classixx’s sound.
Frankel shared some background on the collaboration:
I knew I wanted to work with Mike and Tyler as soon as I met them in 2008. Soon after, Mike and I worked at his apartment and came up with a basic idea for a song, “I feel numb.” So many years later, we finally got around to finishing it last summer at their studio in LA. Good things take time? I hope so. It’s a really fun song and it makes me happy. Thrilled to finally be on a record with my very close, talented friends Classixx.
