salute – “One More Chance” (ft. D.R.A.M.)

Brighton via Vienna producer salute is only 20 years old, but he displays a deft command of genres, blending electronic, gospel, UK drum and bass, and even trap leanings for a soulful Gumbo. He’s set to drop the mini-album My Heart, and it’s an appropriate title because his music translates a feeling of intimacy through its intricacy. The first single from the small offering is “One More Chance,” featuring Virginia sing rapper D.R.A.M. This is a perfect pairing musically and it shows through on the track. D.R.A.M. can rhyme in locked in cadences and hit every step in between making his way to full on singing, and that’s exactly what he does over salute’s beat. Gospel piano, rumbling bass, intricate shimmying percussion, and dance drums combine to lift the rapper’s voice sky high as he croons a plea for one more chance to better himself to his girl. The versatility of both the rapper and producer make for a penetrating, oh so soulful experience. Here’s what salute had to say about the collaboration:

When I made the track I’d intended it to be a 2 minute gospel instrumental, inspired by being brought up on gospel music played to me by my parents. I then thought it would actually sound interesting in a club context. At the same time, me and D.R.A.M. started following each other on Twitter, and once we’d started messaging each other he had said he was a fan of my music. I sent the same track over to him and here we are!
