Nate Eiesland, Ryne Estwing, and Alissa Ricci formed their somber pop-rock project ON AN ON in the ashes of their flamed out five-piece Scattered Trees. Rather than let their already booked studio time go to waste in the aftermath of their former band’s dissolution, the trio got together and recorded Give In, ON AN ON’s 2013 debut. While the band followed up the album in 2015 with a second LP And The Wave Has Two Sides, they recently revisited their first release to shoot a new video for “Ghosts,” a song that originally got a visual treatment back in 2012.
The occasion for this return to older material? They’ve decided to go on hiatus. Here’s an abbreviated version of the statement they posted to Facebook:
ON AN ON is going to be taking a break from touring. We may still release music and play concerts now and then around Minneapolis, but we are winding ourselves in for now. There are a few reasons that this is our next move. If you’re able to make it to any of the last OAO shows in the next couple months we can talk more about it. Those dates are below and here. It’s an entirely positive decision for us. We’re redirecting the energy we were giving to OAO into new exciting things.
In the meantime we get this new “Ghosts” video. Centered on a game of cat-and-mouse between two big-eyed look-alikes, the Jeremy Cloe-directed clip goes from sympathetic to creepy to an uneasy blend of the two by the end. Hold on to your shoes (you’ll see), and watch below.
A statement from Eiesland about the video:
The first thing we put on the internet was the song “Ghosts” in 2012, back when ON AN ON was just beginning. Jeremy Cloe recently sent us a new video he made for “Ghosts.” We thought it would be fun to loop in on ourselves by releasing a second official music video for “Ghosts” as the band is about to go on a hiatus. Why not? The band’s name is ON AN ON, so we have to let that snake eat its tail a little bit. Thank you Internet. Thank you music fans for always being there. We’ll connect again soon.
