UK producer Gold Panda just released his Good Luck And Do Your Best album in May, and he’s already followed it up with a new surprise EP called Kingdom, as Pitchfork points out. And Gold Panda had a very specific and urgent reason to release this one right now: Like so many other people in the UK, he’s concerned about Brexit and about the wave of xenophobia that it represents. As FACT reports, Gold Panda writes, “It was made after talking to a neighbour who moved his family from Afghanistan to the UK. He ordered a phone off Amazon so he could call home, but the delivery driver signed for it and kept it. I thought this was a pretty shitty welcome. I made a couple of less happy songs that are very very loosely based around that and my Brexit fears, which were sadly confirmed.” You can hear the five-track EP below.
Kingdom is out now at Bandcamp.
