Lifetime is remaking the 1988 film Beaches with Frozen’s Adele Dazeem — or Idina Menzel, if you don’t speak Travoltese — in the Bette Midler role. Menzel has signed on to star as CC, an aspiring singer who meets and befriends a rich girl named Hillary under the Venice boardwalk in LA (instead of the Atlantic City boardwalk, as in the original film). The role of Hillary, played by Barbara Hershey in the original, still has yet to be cast. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Lifetime version will feature new takes on Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory Of Love” and feature several other songs recorded specifically for the movie. The remake will be directed by Allison Anders from a script by Bart Baker and Nikole Beckwith and executive produced by Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan. Production begins 8/15 in Vanvoucer, and the movie will premiere on Lifetime sometime in 2017.
