The rock legend Patti Smith’s new project is an intriguing one. She’s teamed up with Soundwalk Collective, a sort of sound-art group based in New York and Berlin, and with her daughter Jesse Paris Smith to record the new LP Killer Road. The album is a tribute to Nico, Smith’s New York proto-punk peer. We’ve already posted the album’s title track, and now Soundwalk Collective and the two Smiths have shared their version of the eerie “I Will Be Seven.” The song was one of the last that Nico ever wrote, and she performed it at her final concert in 1988. The new version is long, spacey, and immersively ambient. Below, listen to the song.
Killer Road is out 9/2 on Sacred Bones.
