Georgie – “Company Of Thieves” Video

We were first introduced to Matthew E. White’s Spacebomb Studios with White’s debut LP in 2012, and since then the Virginia music hub has blessed us with stunning LPs from Natalie Prass and Julien Baker. Now the Spacebomb family continues to expand with the addition of 21-year-old Georgie.

Her debut single “Company Of Thieves” is a flashback to early ’60s rock ‘n’ roll and girl-group pop, though it skews closer to Amy Winehouse than, say, Vivian Girls. Georgie’s vocals are proud and unrelenting as she howls about a scorned lover: “Did I come to your flat with a sign on my back saying screw me over/ Did you think we were friends while you made your plans for me to discover.” With a voice like a cup of freshly brewed black coffee, Georgie is an inebriating presence, backed here by devious basslines and subtle electronic nuances.

The accompanying visual follows East Midlands singer on an evening walk around the block as chaos either erupts coincidently around her or is coaxed into existence by her presence: two best friends playfully vandalize a convenience store, a poor gal breaks a heel while couples spar, and the a number of one-night-stands go embarrassingly awry. Georgie will be on tour with Jake Bugg and Blossoms this fall in the UK and then will return to Richmond in order to finish her debut record. Watch and listen to “Company Of Thieves” below.
