Very Fresh — the project of Brooklyn-based musician Cindy Lou Gooden — released a new EP, Hey, It’s Me, a few weeks ago, and today she’s shared a cover of Garbage’s “Only Happy When It Rains,” off the Shirley Manson-led band’s 1995 debut. It doesn’t differ too much from the original given the similarities between Gooden and Manson’s snarl and penchant for numbed-out anthemics, but it’s a reverent take on a great song. “It turned out to be a great window to the engineering genius of Butch Vig as we tried to recreate each part (somewhat) faithfully,” Gooden told The Le Sigh. “I’ve always liked the Garbage hits, but now have a greater reverence for Vig – and of course Shirley Manson’s songwriting and voice.” Listen to it below.
