Watch Metallica, The Roots, & Jimmy Fallon Play “Enter Sandman” On Toy Instruments

We have officially reached the point where Metallica, the kings of ’80s thrash, have become adorable. Tomorrow, Metallica will release their proudly old-school new album Hardwired… To Self Destruct. And on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show, Metallica became the latest musicians to play a song on kids’ classroom instruments. Along with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, the members of Metallica all crowded around a camera to do a cacophonous, objectively awful version of their 1991 standby “Enter Sandman.” Kirk Hammett played a melodica, and all the members of the Roots wore Metallica shirts. It was cute. Their version of the song sadly cut off before the guitar solo; I was wondering how they were going to handle that. Watch the performance below.

Hardwired… To Self-Destruct is out 11/18 on Blackened Recordings. At least they didn’t do Carpool Karaoke, you know?
